TORONTO, June 26, 2021 – Woodbine’s Track Announcer Robert Geller has the best view of the racetrack from his booth on the sixth floor! Check out which horses have been catching the eye of Robert and are worth circling down for upcoming races at Woodbine Racetrack. TALE OF MINESHAFT (06-20-2021 Race 6, 10, 3rd) First time starter Tale of Mineshaft ran a deceptively strong race from an outside post when third in his debut at the tough distance of 7f. The son of Mineshaft broke on top and though keen to go on, was taken back off the pace to avoid being caught too wide into the first turn. The 3YO then built a sustained run wide out from the back of the field to challenge the eventual winner Arties Storm on the turn for home. Tale of Mineshaft looked like he was about to go on by but the earlier efforts took their toll as Arties Storm came away with Beyond Borders putting in a late charge for second. The race should have tightened the Josie Carroll-trained 3YO up for his next try in which he should be hard to beat. CANDY OVERLOAD (06-20-2021 Race 12, No 11, 2nd) In his first race off the bench, the lightly raced Candy Overload stormed home from the back of the field to swoop into second place to finish 1-3/4L behind breakaway winner, There’s No Joe, who cut loose rounding the turn. This was a good quality field of 14 runners at the $40,000 claiming tag with both the top two finishers having covered extra ground from their wider posts. Candy Overload broke his maiden at this 6-1/2f distance on the main track and was not disgraced before the break in the Frost King Stakes when third to common foe Red River Rebel who he again faced here. Red River Rebel remained up on the lead throughout before weakening to fourth, Candy Overload, running by him in deep stretch. On the strength of this performance, Candy Overload looks set to break back with a win soon, especially if he has pace to target. Share This:Share
