In this week’s Woodbine Notebook, Buium looks for a breakthrough in the Breeders’ Stakes, a closer look at Saturday’s fifth race at Woodbine, and a longshot look at Saturday night’s fifth dash at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Need to know for the Breeders’ Stakes: Bronze, times 3 / Just like mom Buium has three thirds from four tries on the turf. His dam, Lady Haddassah, won four times on four different turf courses. New green scene Bond Market is 1-for-1 on the grass, the victory coming on Woodbine’s inner turf on July 5. Uncorked? Fire and Wine has a third on the inner turf and a seventh over the E.P. Taylor in two career tries on the grass. One better Katie’s Grace was second, only a neck back of the winner, in her lone turf try, the 1 ¼-mile Wonder Where Stakes, on Sept. 6. Katie’s Grace. Michael Burns Photography * The only 2 Wise Walker (second, over the E.P. Taylor on Aug. 16) and Buddha’s Delight (third, over the inner on July 26) are the only two horses in Saturday’s fifth race who have raced on grass. * Longshot special Handicapper Garnet Barnsdale is turning to 10-1 morning line Miraculous Desbi N as his top pick in Saturday’s third race at Woodbine Mohawk Park. “#7 MIRACULOUS DESBI N hadn’t raced in four weeks when he lined up behind the gate last week, so it was no surprise to see him take back from a wide post and look to rally late. He saved ground turning for home and after altering course, he finished full of pace between horses, pacing a sub-53 back half. He gets back to a seven-day cycle now, and he gets a better post draw. I’ll take a price swing with him to start up tonight’s early Pick 4.” Share This:Share
