A look at some of the top highlights from the past weekend of racing at Woodbine. Front Nine Dual Hall of Fame trainer Mark Casse, courtesy of Bellamy Road filly Winterberry, continued his unparallelled stretch of dominance over the $125,000 Fury Stakes with a record extending ninth win Saturday at Woodbine. Under an in-control trip from champion jockey Patrick Husbands, Winterberry cruised coast-to-coast for the 1 ¼-length score ahead of 25-1 challenger Nata Trouble. Winterberry – Casse’s third straight Fury victor – paid $6.80 at 2-1. 600 Reasons To Smile It was a milestone afternoon Saturday for trainer Don MacRae, who netted career win number 600 with veteran gelding Light the Lamp in race eight. Engaged in a tight battle with 2-1 favourite Silent Reserve deep into the stretch, Light the Lamp and rider Pietro Moran fought gamely to outduel their contemporary by a head. The son of Reload out of Al Mufti mare Woodland City ended a nine-race winless drought, paying $7.50 in the process. A+ for Aebly Rider Fraser Aebly struck three times in a row on Sunday, capping off the spectacular stretch in the $125,000 Queenston Stakes aboard the Josie Carroll-conditioned Notorious Gangster. The highlight triumph of Aebly’s astounding afternoon required a blistering burst down the stretch, of which the son of Classic Empire–Sister Nova was happy to oblige for the half-length tally. Aebly’s third win on the card, and the second stakes success of Notorious Gangster’s career, paid an even $13. Stay tuned Live racing continues Saturday and Sunday.
