TORONTO, August 23 – Ami’s Mesa is one of three contenders for trainer Josie Carroll in Saturday’s $125,000 Grade 3 Seaway Stakes, at Woodbine. An Ivan Dalos homebred daughter of Sky Mesa-Victorious Ami, Amis’ Mesa arrives at the seven furlong Tapeta sprint for fillies and mares three-years-old and up from a sparkling score in the Grade 3 Ontario Matron competed over 1 1/16-miles on the Woodbine main. With four wins from seven career starts, the talented miss is likely to be the post-time favourite given her solid record at the distance (three wins from four attempts) while having just posted a field-best 89 Beyer Speed Figure for her Ontario Matron score. Luis Contreras retains the mount. Carroll will also saddle Gliding By and Salty Breeze. Gliding By, a four-year-old daughter of Artie Schiller, sports a record of 3-3-1 from 15 starts. The consistent miss has hit the board in all four starts this campaign finally breaking through last time out to win a seven furlong turf event following consecutive runner-up efforts. Gary Boulanger will ride. Salty Breeze, a five-year-old Stormy Atlantic mare, is a three-time winner from 11 starts including a June 17 score in an off-the-turf optional claiming sprint that earned an 81 Beyer number. Emma-Jayne Wilson has the call. A competitive nine-horse field also includes recent stakes winners Tulsa Queen and Blurricane. Tulsa Queen, trained by Ryan Walsh, shipped to Woodbine from Presque Isle Downs on July 15 to take the Duchess Stakes by a half-length over next out allowance winner Just Be Kind. The three-year-old Cactus Ridge bay finished third last time out in the Malvern Rose Stakes, a one-mile event at Presque Isle Downs. Willie Martinez will ride. Blurricane, a five-year-old Rebellion mare trained by Martin Drexler, is the winningest horse in the field with nine scores from 22 starts including a victory in the six furlong Ballade Stakes here on May 14. The consistent bay enjoyed a solid 2016 campaign with a record of 3-3-1 from nine starts and has continued her good run of form into 2017 with two wins from three starts. Jesse Campbell takes over from Contreras. Sky My Sky, Kylla Instinct, Hot Kiss and Crumlin Spirit complete the field. The Seaway is slated as Race 8 on Saturday’s 11-race card.
