TORONTO, October 16, 2025 – B the King, fresh off a strong runner-up debut, makes his second straight stakes appearance, this time in Sunday’s $100,000 Frost King, a seven-furlong main track event for Ontario-sired 2-year-olds, at Woodbine. Trained by Julia Carey for owner Lightning Bolt Stables, the son of Point of Entry out of the Flashback mare Exuma made his career bow in the Bull Page Stakes, a 6 ½-furlong main track event for Ontario-sired 2-year-old colts and geldings, on September 14. Sent off as the 7-2 third choice, B the King took command in upper stretch before giving way grudgingly in the late going to finish 2 ¼ lengths behind the winner. I was hoping he was that good. I thought we would give him a chance. There was a maiden race we could have gone to, but these races only come up once a year, an Ontario-sired, restricted stakes race, so he showed us that it was not a bad idea after all. “He has been great from day one. What we learned early on is that he is a very mature horse. Everything we have asked him to do as a 2-year-old – the gate, his works – he has done it eagerly and well. The people who broke him did a very good job.” The chestnut colt, bred by Princeton Farms Inc. and N. Ham, caught Carey’s attention early on. “I bought him at the sale for this ownership group,” said the multiple graded stakes winning conditioner, of the $25,000 (CDN) purchase at the 2024 CTHS Ontario Premier Yearling Sale. “He was a nice, chunky little horse and I got him for the right price. Conformation-wise, he was good. He had a solid bone on him, and he was Ontario-sired, which is what we were looking for. There is some nice bonus money available to race for, so he checked all the boxes.” B the King recorded a pair of breezes after the Bull Page. B the King On October 5, he covered four panels in :49.60 on the dirt training track. A week later, he went five furlongs on the main track in 1:00, fastest of 32 works at the distance that morning. “He is a good boy, all around. He’s easy to gallop, easy to train – he’s easy to do everything with. He’s easy to ride, too. Cheyenne Kerr comes over diligently, every single day to get on him. She’s done a wonderful job with him.” “I am grateful for the opportunity to get on Julia’s horses – they are very classy,” said Kerr. “B the King and I seemed to click since the first few times I got the chance to get on him, and he truly has a great mind. He loves to train and do his job. He is the kind of horse that makes your job seem easy.” Michael Small is the groom. Frost King won stakes races in Ontario, Manitoba and Alberta and competed at many of the leading tracks in the U.S., winning stakes at Keeneland and Chicago’s Sportsman’s Park and placing in major events in Massachusetts, Illinois, and Michigan. In 1981, at age 3, Frost King represented Canada in the inaugural running of the Japan Cup, finishing second. He was Canada’s champion 3-year-old in 1981, and the following year was named Horse of the Year, champion grass horse and older horse. During a 55-start career, he was never worse than third on 40 occasions. Of his 27 victories, 21 came in stakes races. The wagering menu for the race includes Rolling Double, Exacta, 0.20 Trifecta, .20 Superfecta, 0.20 Pick 3 (Races 9-10-11) and $1 Swinger. Souper Diva riding winning wave into South Ocean Stakes TORONTO, October 16, 2025 – Souper Diva, trained by Steven Chircop for 6 Deep Stable, will chase her third straight stakes score when she goes postward in Sunday’s $100,000 South Ocean, a seven-furlong test for Ontario-sired 2-year-old fillies, at Woodbine. Sired by Souper Speedy out of the Sharp Humor mare Secret Chords, Souper Diva launched her current win streak with a 4 ¼-length triumph in the $200,000 Muskoka Stakes, a 6 ½-furlong main track event for 2-year-old fillies foaled in Canada, on August 24. One race later, on September 14, she bested six foes in the Victorian Queen Stakes, also at 6 ½ panels over the Woodbine main track. “I think they were both impressive efforts,” said Chircop. “Both times she ran, she set quick fractions, and she kept on going. It’s not like she was walking the dog on the lead – she was having to run to make the lead. Both times the boys ran in their stakes, she ran a full second faster than the boys twice in a row now. I think both f her races were equally as impressive.” Souper Diva debuted on May 24 at Woodbine and finished sixth in a five-furlong sprint over the main track after breaking outward at the beginning. One race later, on June 15, this time at 4 ½ panels on the main track, she broke her maiden courtesy of a three-quarter length score in :52.74. After a ninth in the 5 ½-furlong My Dear Stakes on July 12, she launched her current two-race win streak. “I’ve definitely learned that distance limitations are not what I thought they would be originally,” said Chircop. “We kind of questioned, ‘Can she carry that speed going six or six and a half? But I guess that’s not a question anymore.” Souper Diva covered four furlongs in :47.00 over the main track on October 5. “She galloped out really well,” said Chircop. “She is a very easy horse to work around. Since she started winning, she’s starting to get more aggressive. She’s really in a zone. She’s an easy horse to gallop, but she has definitely gotten tougher with her wins. I think that was her figuring out her job, and what she is supposed to do.” The dark bay brings a record of 3-0-0 from five starts, along with $159,804 in purse earnings, into the South Ocean. “On race day, she is a very calm and relaxed horse. She has a very, very good demeanor. She has been like that from day one. When you see her in the paddock, she is a very well-behaved horse.” Bred by Northern Dawn Stables Inc., Souper Diva was a $23,000 purchase at the 2024 CTHS Ontario Premier Yearling Sale. Dale Payne is the groom. South Ocean, who went on to become a top broodmare, was a dual stakes winner, capturing the 1969 Yearling Sales Stakes and winning the premier race for fillies in 1970, the Canadian Oaks, defeating future Horse of the Year and Hall of Famer, Fanfreluche. Her two-year race record consisted of 22 starts with 17 in the money finishes and purse earnings of $70,147. The wagering menu for the race includes Rolling Double, Exacta, 0.20 Trifecta, 0.20 Superfecta, 0.20 Pick 3 (Races 8-9-10), 0.20, Pick 4 (Races 8-9-10-11) and $1 Swinger.
