Be Vewy Vewy Quiet looking to amp it up in Bull Page

October 6, 2017

TORONTO, October 6 — Be Vewy Vewy Quiet suffered his first defeat when making his third career start in the Colin Stakes, beaten a half-length and a head while finishing third. On Monday, Be Vewy Vewy Quiet will be looking to get back on target in the $125,000 Bull Page, a six-furlong race for Ontario-sired two-year-old colts and geldings which attracted a field of six.

“He’s in good order,” said Bob Tiller, who trains the homebred gelding for owners Frank DiGiulio Jr., Anthony Donofrio, and John Peri. “He should run well.”

Be Very Vewy Quiet certainly did just that in his first two starts, debuting with an 11 ¼ length victory at 5 ½ furlongs and doubling up in the restricted Clarendon Stakes at the same distance.

But in the Colin, breaking from the No. 1 post, Be Vewy Vewy Quiet was unable to deliver as the 3-10 choice in the field of four.

“He was hemmed in,” said Tiller. “He had a rough trip.”

Tiller believes that Be Vewy Vewy Quiet can be effective at longer distances.

“He’s not just a sprinter,” said Tiller. “But for now this is a good spot, and he has a good post.”

Be Vewy Vewy Quiet will break from the five-hole with leading rider Eurico Rosa da Silva taking over in the saddle.

Ellas My Love, a close third in the 6 ½ furlong Simcoe Stakes for local yearling sale participants, is a serious bounce-back candidate here after ending a disappointing fifth in a subsequent first-level restricted allowance race.

“He came out of the race with a little bit of mucus,” said trainer Bill Tharrenos, who purchased Ellas My Love for $30,000 on behalf of owner Andreas Pitsadiotis. “We had to clean him up, and put him on antibiotics.”

Ellas My Love has since breezed five furlongs in 1:00.60 under his new rider Jesse Campbell in a work which Tharrenos was designed to have the colt to finish strongly.

“We’re looking for a big race,” said Tharrenos, who will watch Ella My Love begin from the No. 2 post under Campbell. “If he brings his ‘A’ game, he can win it.”

Both Royal Laser and Latonka are 1-for-1, each scoring in Ontario-sired company with the former’s success coming at 6 1/2 furlongs and the latter’s at six furlongs.

Royal Laser stalked the pace and rallied nicely under returning rider Luis Contreras while Latonka was off slowly and had to overtake seven opponents to prevail under regular pilot Gary Boulanger.

Inge’s victory came in his second start when he was dropped to the $25,000 claiming level following a sixth-place opener.

Cry Bao, who graduated for $40,000 in his second appearance, but then finished sixth as a longshot in restricted no-tag company, rounds out the field.

Royal Laser and Inge were supplemented to the race at a cost of $2,500.
