TORONTO, September 3, 2025 – Dancin in Da’nile, trained and co-owned by Gail Cox, chases his first stakes score in Saturday’s running of the $150,000 HPIbet Singspiel (G3T) at Woodbine. The inner turf will play host to the 1 3/8-mile Singspiel, a race for 3-year-olds and up, that has drawn six starters, including Dancin in Da’nile. The 6-year-old son of Pioneerof the Nile out of the Awesome Again mare Dance Again was fourth in the last year’s running, just 2 ¾ lengths behind multiple graded stakes winner Truly Quality. Dancin in Da’nile (Photo by Gail Cox) Bred by Sam-Son Farm, Dancin in Da’nile has crafted a mark of 4-3-2 from 28 starts, accompanied by $333,932 in purse earnings. The multiple stakes placed dark bay is directly descended from Sam-Son’s greatest champion, Dance Smartly, who is his fourth dam. Co-owned by Cox, Ralph Murray, John Menary and Michael Balaz, the gelding heads into the Singspiel off a rousing runner-up effort in the Niagara Stakes on August 2. Sent off at 21-1, Dancin in Da’nile, under Jose Campos, came six-wide down the lane in the 1 ¼-mile turf test on the E.P. Taylor course and gained late to secure second in the $100,000 fixture. Dancin in Da’nile (Michael Burns Photo) “It was a very nice effort,” said Cox, who won the 2020 edition of the race with Count Again, bred and co-owned by Sam-Son Farm. “We were very happy with it. There was no speed in the race – and he doesn’t have speed either – and I thought he ran great. “I wasn’t surprised at the way he ran,” she continued. “I think he is definitely a turf horse, and he needs a distance. We don’t get those until later in the season, so when we do, it suits him. He’s just a nice horse and has always been. I loved him right from the start. I worked hard to put together a group to buy him.” Dancin in Da’nile’s last two works have come over the Woodbine main track – a five-furlong bullet breeze in :59.00 on August 23 and a four-furlong breeze in :47.20 on August 30. “He’s doing great,” said Cox. “He’s coming into the race exactly how we want him to be. He ran a good one last time out and now he gets more distance.” Diego Garcia is the groom. Trainer Roger Attfield won five consecutive (2009-13) editions of the Singspiel and eight overall runnings. The Singspiel is named after the Irish-bred son of In the Wings (GB), whose nine victories in 20 lifetime starts included the 1996 Canadian International Stakes. The wagering menu for the Singspiel includes Rolling Double, Exacta, 0.20 Trifecta, 0.20 Superfecta, $1 Swinger. Set for 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf, the race for 3-year-old fillies foaled in Canada drew five starters, including stakes-winning Aristella. No Time, trained by Mark Casse for owner Gary Barber, captured the first leg of the Canadian Triple Tiara, the Woodbine Oaks Presented by Stella Artois, on July 20. Her stablemate, Winterberry, also trained by Casse for D.J. Stable LLC, followed up with a victory in the second leg, the Bison City Stakes, on August 9. Both will contest the Wonder Where. Trained by Rachel Halden, Aristella, a daughter of More Than Ready out of the unraced Street Cry (IRE) mare Back to Love, heads into her seventh straight stakes engagement off a third in the Bison City. “She is doing very well,” said Halden, of the filly who recorded her first stakes win in the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth, a main track race for Canadian-foaled 2-year-old fillies, last November. “She didn’t fire in the Woodbine Oaks (seventh) and didn’t run her race. But I thought it was a very good effort in the Bison City.” Sporting a 2-1-0 mark from nine starts, Aristella broke her maiden in her third appearance, a 1 ¾-length score over a mile and 70 yards on the Woodbine main track on October 5, Owned by Flying Zee Racing Stables LLC, the bay will test the turf for the third time in her career. Aristella debuted with an off-the-board finish over the Saratoga inner turf on July 21, 2024, and was fifth in her next start, a 1 1/16-mile race over the E.P. Taylor turf at Woodbine on September 14. After finding a seam late in the latter effort, Aristella produced a strong finishing kick. Aristella (Michael Burns Photo) “Once she found some daylight, she came with a nice run,” said Halden. Aristella breezed four furlongs twice over the turf training track, on August 24 and August 31, both in :47.80, in preparation for the Wonder Where. Halden, a multiple graded stakes winner, was pleased with both moves. “She has worked extremely well, and she seems to be in a very good place right now. So, we are going to give this a chance. The hope is that she can build off that last race and move forward. Based on the last race and how she has been working, she definitely deserves the opportunity to be here.” Bred by Peter A. Berglar Racing Interests, LLC & Anderson Farms (Ontario), Aristella was a $70,000 (U.S.) purchase at the 2023 Keeneland Association September Yearling Sale. Adrian Harewood is the groom. The race is named after champion filly Wonder Where, Canada’s 1959 Horse of the Year and Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee. Sealy Hill, Canada’s Horse of the Year in 2007, took all three Triple Tiara races in that same year. Northern Queen won the inaugural running of the Wonder Where in 1965.
