TORONTO, September 25, 2020 – Eight colts & geldings, including De Only Solution, face off in the $100,000 Bull Page Stakes, while eight fillies square off in the $100,000 Victorian Queen Stakes, Sunday at Woodbine. The Bull Page, a 7 ½-furlong Inner Turf race for Ontario-sired two-year-old colts & geldings, includes De Only Solution, a gelded son of Sligo Bay. Trained and co-owned (with Centennial Farms Niagara) by Cole Bennett, the bay dominated his career bow on September 4, a 7 ¾-length romp at 6 ½ panels on the Woodbine Tapeta. After being bumped at the start, De Only Solution regrouped and was guided to the front by Patrick Husbands. The duo, 2 ½ lengths on top at the stretch call, widened their lead at will down the lane. “I knew he was going to run well,” said Bennett. “I put him in a spot where I thought he could win, so I thought he was going to win or at least be second. But I didn’t think he would be that impressive, to be honest. The time [1:17.01] is what shocked me… it was really impressive.” The performance also prompted a comparison to another talented Woodbine-based contemporary. “Actually, I compared it to when [Plate Trial Stakes winner and 2020 Queen’s Plate third-place finisher] Clayton ran first time out last year,” said Bennett, referring to the son of Bodemeister’s 7 ½ length winning debut last November. “It was kind of a similar performance, very impressive, just kind of drew off on them like it was nothing.” Bennett expects his rookie to charge, bred by Dr. Brian Van Arem, to step up to the stakes challenge on Sunday. “He’s doing great. He’s doing very well. It’s a little bit quick coming back, running a two-year-old in a stake, but he’s pretty tough. I don’t think it’s too much to ask of him at all. He’s wound very tight, weaves in the stall, and really likes to get out first thing in the morning. He likes his job. “I think the fact that he’s a Sligo Bay, I think he’s going to take to the turf. He looks like he can stretch out after his first performance. The race didn’t take much out of him, so I don’t think we’ve seen even close to the best of him. It will be interesting to see what happens if another horse looks him in the eye, to see what he’ll do. That’s when you’ll really get to see what kind of horse they are.” The Victorian Queen, an Ontario-sired event for two-year-old fillies, will also be run on the Inner Turf. Flawless Pink, a daughter of Not Bourbon, has one win from two starts for trainer Elizabeth Elder and owner Cudney Stables. After a fourth in her debut, Hatmaker Holiday, bred and owned by Ivan Dalos, won second time out on August 8. The Josie Carroll trainee will step up to the stakes ranks for the first time on Sunday. After a victory in her career bow at Prairie Meadows in June, Howmuchistoomuch, a daughter of Giant Gizmo, trained by Preston Ferris, finished fourth in the Muskoka Stakes. Il Malocchio, bred and owned by Franco Meli, was runner-up in her second start on September 5 at Woodbine. A grey daughter of Silent Name, Robert Rose trainee Mum’s the Word broke her maiden in her second outing on September 12. Goldmart Farms’ homebred Silent But Violent will look to make some noise in her fourth career start. The daughter of Silent Name, trained by Sid Attard, has posted one third in three starts. Michael Ambler’s Silent Guroo, also a daughter of Silent Name, has one win and a third from two starts ahead of her stakes debut. Sunsprite, trained by Kevin Attard, goes for two straight wins after a victory in her first start on September 3. Denny Andrews, who bred the daughter of Reload, co-owns with Niall Brennan. The Victorian Queen’s is scheduled as race seven on Sunday’s 1:00 p.m. program. The Bull Page is race nine.
