July 20, 2019

TORONTO, July 20, 2019 — Woodbine Entertainment announced today that it will implement extra precautions for today’s Thoroughbred race card at Woodbine Racetrack in accordance with the Alcohol and Gaming Condition of Ontario’s Temperature Standards-Based Rule Cancellation for Racetracks policy.

The extra measures include additional veterinarians to monitor temperature and pulse rates, extra hosing stations or mobile cooling stations with trained attendant, access to water for horses at all times, shaded areas provided for unsaddling horses, ice made available in numerous locations and minimized post parade times.

While high heat and humidity are expected to continue today, Environment Canada is not calling for severe weather conditions in the Toronto area Saturday afternoon and forecasted temperatures are within AGCO guidelines.

Friday’s race card was cancelled due to a severe weather forecast which included the risk of thunderstorms, high winds, hail, heat and humidity.
