TORONTO, April 27 – Chiefswood Stable homebred Ghostly Presence, winner of the prestigious Princess Elizabeth Stakes here in November, will make her seasonal debut in Sunday’s $125,000 Fury Stakes, a seven furlong sprint for Canadian-bred sophomore fillies, at Woodbine. Trained by Roger Attfield, Ghostly Presence romped by eight lengths on debut when much the best in a six furlong maiden allowance sprint over next out winners Conquest Bandido and Lemon Zip. Next time out, the Ghostzapper chestnut tired after duelling through swift splits when fifth in the Ontario Debutante Stakes. However, Ghostly Presence hinted at talent when travelling two turns for the first time on October 21 when a rallying fourth, defeated just two lengths by Fury rival Mythical Mission, in a 1 1/16-mile allowance route. Ghostly Presence, with Steve Bahen up for the first time, then capped her juvenile season with a flourish taking the $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile Tapeta route, when ignored on the tote board at 19-1. The courageous effort saw Ghostly Presence finish a 1/2-length in front of Fury rival Enstone who was 2 3/4-lengths the better of Mythical Mission. Bahen retains the mount on Ghostly Presence who has trained extensively at Payson Park, in Florida, and at Keeneland, in Kentucky, for this debut. Mythical Mission, a Sam-Son Farm homebred daughter of Giant’s Causeway-Misty Mission, is a full sister to 2012 Woodbine Oaks champion Irish Mission. The chestnut was victorious in her first two starts taking a 5 1/2-furlong turf sprint by a head, followed by a 3/4-length score in an off-the-turf allowance route. She completed her campaign in the Princess Elizabeth where she hopped at the start before rallying from tenth to finish third. Regular rider Eurico Rosa da Silva has the call. A talented field of nine fillies also includes stakes winners Cindervella and Ellan Vannin. Cindervella, trained by Mike DePaulo, posted a record of 1-1-1 from five starts including a win in the 1 1/16-mile South Ocean Stakes to mark a stylish maiden win in her third attempt. The Silent Name bay endured a bumpy trip in the Princess Elizabeth but came back to finish second, to Ellan Vannin, in the Ontario Lassie. Luis Contreras has the call. Ellan Vannin, trained by Tony M. Gattellaro, is undefeated in two starts. The Spring At Last chestnut was a rallying 2 1/2-length winner on debut at odds of 36-1 under Jeffrey Alderson on November 19 when sprinting 6 1/2-furlongs. She returned just 11 days later to win the Ontario Lassie in similar rallying fashion while trying two-turns for the first time. She posted a sharp five furlong breeze on April 17 in 1:00.80 in her final prep for this seasonal debut. Alderson will ride. Financial Recovery, Lady Nicky, Lemon Zip and Goldrush Glory complete a wide-open affair. The Fury is slated as Race 8 on Sunday’s 10-race card. First post time is 1PM.
