Humormeastory from the clouds to win the Lake Superior

July 26, 2026

TORONTO, July 26, 2026 – Humormeastory closed like rocket in deep stretch to foil favourite Wine After Whiskey and win Sunday’s $150,000 Lake Superior Stakes at Woodbine.

Ridden by regular rider Jalon Samuel, the notoriously slow starting Humormeastory, once again broke tardily and found himself 10th of 10, through an opening two-furlongs in :22.59.

Around the turn, Wine After Whiskey stalked early leader Quadzilla, edging by outside and taking the lead by a head through a half-mile split in :46.12. Behind them, Humormeastory (Frac Daddy – Tory’s Humorgirl, by Sharp Humor) was beginning to wind up, brushing with stablemate Tiho Srce, while being swung out seven wide for the drive.

Wine After Whiskey took a clear advantage inside the final furlong, but Humormeastory (pictured below, Michel Burns Photography), now a grey blur in full flight, closed resolutely to score by a half-length in final time of 1:11.01, in the 6-furlong main track sprint for Ontario-sired three-year-old colts and geldings.

“He ran his race and I just had to guide him from there,” said Samuel, who also picked up his first stakes win at Woodbine. “Usually he gives me extra kick and he did that today again.”

Bred and owned by John Brnjas’ Colebrook Farms, Humormeastory breezed from the gate, between his first and second career starts. On June 26th, he worked 3-furlongs from the latch in a pedestrian :39.00, worst of twelve workers that morning.

“He just does not want to break sharp,” lamented trainer Patrick Dixon. “He wants to get his feet underneath him and we didn’t really want to change that style of him. We knew there would be a lot of speed in this race, so if anything the race would set up perfectly for him.”

Being a son of graded route winner Frac Daddy, Dixon does foresee more racing real estate being on the table for Humormeastory.

“We definitely would like to do that with him, see how far he’d want to go,” said Dixon. “Last time he went six and a half and looked like he needed every inch.”

“This time, he really impressed me that he got the six-furlongs. I wouldn’t mind stretching him out.”

Humormeastory improved to 2-0-1 with the Lake Superior win, from three lifetime starts. A 5-1 morning line bet, Humormeastory ticked up to 7-1 at post time and returned $15.70 for the win.

Even money favourite Wine After Whiskey was second, exotics fan fave Auntie’s Bambino was third at 53-1 and Gone With Duwyn was fourth. Pepper Brooks was scratched.
