ICYMI: Kentucky Derby, Oaks Tickets Punched Over Major Weekends at Oaklawn & Gulfstream Park

March 30, 2026

Outlaw Spirit

Even-money choice Renegade couldn’t be contained in a decisive four-length triumph of the $1.5 million Arkansas Derby (G1), Saturday at Oaklawn Park.

Competing for Robert and Lawana Low, who bred and co-own the sophomore bay with Repole Stable, Renegade simply proved too powerful for 7-2 second choice Silent Tactic down the stretch.

The stunning showcase from the Into Mischief colt not only solidified a post position in the 152nd Kentucky Derby (G1) but cemented his status as one of the Run for the Roses’ top contenders.

Renegade, who improved his overall standing to 2-2-1 ($1,031,500) across five starts, paid $4.

Bestseller

Nu What’s New’s stock reached unprecedented heights this past Saturday after a hard-earned score in the $500,000 Oaklawn Mile (G3).

Working under rider Luis Saez, the bay, out of Scat Daddy mare Heavenly Scat, took control at the half before increasing his advantage to two lengths through the stretch.

A spirited challenge from 9-2 foe East Avenue cut into New What’s New’s lead, but the 4-year-old Munnings gelding held three-quarters-of-a-length clear for the victory.

Trained by James DiVito for owner Doubledown Stables, Nu What’s New, as the 9-5 favourite, paid $5.80.

Rock Solid

Commandment needed a 10-out-of-10 effort to track down The Puma late in Saturday’s $1 million Florida Derby (G1) – and that’s exactly what the second-year Into Mischief colt did to book a spot in May’s Kentucky Derby.

Not content to settle for the runner-up’s share of the 200 available Derby qualifying points, Commandment unleashed a furious kick in the push for home to reach the wire a nose ahead of his 7-1 rival.

The Brad Cox charge’s second stellar outing this season came exactly one month after another gritty triumph in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth, which also took place at Gulfstream Park.

As the 9-5 second choice on Saturday, Commandment paid $5.80.

 Crown Moment

Prom Queen’s headed to the big dance after picking up the victory and 100 Kentucky Oaks (G1) qualifying points in Saturday’s $250,000 Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2).

It was a strong finish following a patient start for the 3-year-old daughter of Quality Road–Miss Bling Bing, who climbed into the lead at the stretch and pulled away for the smooth 2 ¾-length tally.

Prom Queen has now reached the winner’s circle in consecutive appearances for owners Gary and Mary West after delivering a runner-up result in her professional debut on January 23.

At 3-1 in the Gulfstream Park Oaks, she paid $8.20.

Right in Rhythm

Making her first start in over 12 months, Rashmi showed no signs of rust in a confident triumph of Saturday’s $100,000 Wilshire (G3T) at Santa Anita.

Back at the site of her three 2025 starts, the 5-year-old Oscar Performance mare successfully recaptured the form that saw her come out on top of last February’s Megahertz Stakes (G3).

In the one-mile Wilshire, Rashmi hopped out to an early lead, growing her margin to five lengths through the stretch before settling at a final tally of 2 ¾ lengths.

Now 5-1-2 from 10 starts lifetime ($234,736) for owner Augustin Stables, Rashmi (2-5) paid $2.80.
