Inside Track for April 18-19

April 20, 2026

Four-score Munger

Jockey Ryan Munger knocked it out of the park with a grand slam on opening weekend at Woodbine.

Coming off a career year in 2025, Munger picked up where he left off in Saturday’s seventh, reaching the winner’s circle with Bill Tharrenos charge Elgin Park.

The Durban, South Africa native remained a relentless force on Sunday, capturing the second and sixth with Tara Neigel trainee’s Vegas Road and Split Strike, as well as the fifth aboard Magic Power for trainer John Mattine.

Welcome back, Jose

There were no opening day jitters for jockey Jose Campos, who guided Haley’s Honor to victory in the first race of the season on Saturday afternoon.

The commanding 6 ¼-length gate-to-wire victory for trainer and co-owner Steven Chircop represented the 150th career trip to the winner’s circle for Campos.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico, Campos, who was injured in a race last November, also enjoyed his most successful campaign to date in 2025, collecting career highs across the board (48-63-62) for nearly $2.5 million prizes.

His first winner of 2026, at 7-5, paid $4.90.

Ticket to the ‘Moon’

Highwaytothemoon rocketed down the lane to take Sunday’s fourth by a neck with Woodbine’s leading jockey in 2025, Rafael Hernandez, in the irons.

The hearty effort from the sophomore son of Ransom the Moon–High Society Gal got him back atop the charts following a pair of sharp outings in last year’s Simcoe Stakes (third) and bet365 Algonquin Stakes (fourth).

Trained by Dale Desruisseaux for owner Centennial Farms (Niagara) Inc., Highwaytothemoon now stands at 2-0-1 with over $96,000 banked across four lifetime starts.

At 7-2 on Sunday, he paid $9.
