EJW for the W Sovereign and Eclipse Award-winning jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson recorded her first win of the 2025 Woodbine racing season aboard Cozy Curlin Kitten in race eight on Saturday afternoon. Wilson, a multiple graded stakes-winning rider with 1,931 wins and more than $91.4 in purse earnings on her resume, returned to action on June 12 following a spill on October 25. Trained by Darwin Banach for The Estate of John Hillier, Cozy Curlin Kitten, bred in Kentucky by Sandra Sexton & Silver Fern Farm, paid $12.90 for the win. In it to win it Saratoga Empress (GB), an 18-1 dart throw in Saturday’s third race, reigned supreme over nine rivals with a hard-charging rally to break her maiden. Working alongside rider Jose Campos, the 3-year-old daughter of Advertise (GB)–Sky Full of Stars (GER) was jostled early, but under the steady hand of Jose Campos, persevered for the gritty half-length tally. With the fifth time being the charm, Saratoga Empress paid a handsome $38.70. Owning it A sunny Sunday afternoon at Woodbine was especially bright for trainer Kyle Sharman, who earned his first career win in race five with homebred gelding Sprung Loose. The bay son of Danish Dynaformer–Sprung At Last closed as the longest shot in the field of six at 8-1, but a strong trip from rider Jason Hoyte allowed the 4-year-old to engineer the half-length upset. Sprung Loose, also owned by Sharman, paid a cool $18.50. Stay tuned Live racing continues Saturday and Sunday.
