TORONTO, November 15, 2017 – Two-year-old filly Line of Vision picked up her second straight stakes victory with a big last-to-first run in the $125,000 South Ocean on Wednesday evening at Woodbine Racetrack. A winner of the six-furlong Victorian Queen Stakes a month ago, Line of Vision stretched out to 1-1/16 miles in the Ontario Sires Stakes event for trainer Andrew Smith and owner Joey Gee Thoroughbreds. “It’s always a question until you do it,” said Smith of his filly’s capabilities to run long. “It’s always a question, even tonight halfway down the back, I thought will she go that far? That is the question.” Last in the field scratched down to eight through the first half-mile, Line of Vision and jockey Luis Contreras began to pick off rivals approaching the final turn. She struck the front at the top of the stretch as the favoured Princess Elizabeth Stakes champion Clickity Clack emerged along the rail from a ground-saving trip behind pacesetter Gizmo’s Destiny (:24.89, :49.47, 1:14.46). However, Line of Vision rallied to score the one-length victory in 1:45.55, with supplemental entry Gosudarina also arriving from the backfield to edge out Clickity Clack for the runner-up role. “I’m really happy I rode this horse today. Andrew gave me this opportunity and I’m really happy,” said Contreras, who was paired with Line of Vision for the first time in her four career starts. “I was nice and confident and comfortable all the way in my trip and she had a tremendous kick at the end.” Bred in Ontario by Dr. Brian Van Arem, the Court Vision-Gold Lined filly now boasts three career wins and has finished no worse than third to earn more than $170,000 in her juvenile campaign. Sent postward as the slight 5-2 second choice, Line of Vision paid $7.50, $4.10 and $2.70. She combined with Gosudarina ($12.30, $5.70) for a 6-5 exacta worth $75.60. A $1 trifecta of 6-5-2 (Clickity Clack, $2.70) paid $115.75 and a $1 superfecta of 6-5-2-7 (She’s the Berries) returned $341.55. Bramble Queen, Gizmo’s Destiny, Show Me the Prize and Swagitude completed the field. Close Image was scratched. Share This:Share
