April 1, 2024

TORONTO, April 1, 2024 – In this week’s edition of MMQP, multiple graded stakes-winning trainer Kevin Attard shares his thoughts on the 2023 season and looks ahead to the 2024 Woodbine campaign.

  • Fashionably Fab, a Sovereign Award finalist, won four stakes, including the La Prevoyante
  • Moira, Canada’s Horse of the Year in 2022, won the Canadian Stakes (G2T)
  • Velocitor, bred and owned by Al and Bill Ulwelling, took the Prince of Wales
  • Attard is once again a finalist for the Outstanding Trainer Sovereign Award
  • Three wins away from 750 for his career
  • Career purse earnings stands at $37,897,609 (U.S.)

Opening Quarter

“There were definitely some highlights last year. Fashionably Fab winning three stakes stands out. Velocitor winning the Prince of Wales was a big moment for our barn too. Then, you have Moira winning the Canadian – her record speaks for itself – and others like Love to Shop, Airosa, Pipit, War Painter, Rosa, Tripolina and Inudation.”

Half Mile

“It’s great to see some of them as Sovereign finalists. I know how much it means to the owners, and everyone connected to them.”

“We were very grateful to have so many nice horses and supportive owners.”

Stretch Drive

“I think, like the start of any year, you want to get off to a good start and then carry that momentum throughout the season.” “The goal is to always improve on the past year, but aside from good horses, you need some racing luck too.”

Finish Line

“It does sound cliche, but as you go along in racing, you learn to stay within the moment, to not look too far ahead.” “That said, you do have that excitement about young horses starting to develop and older horses coming back a year stronger and more mature.”

“I’m fortunate to have an amazing team, which extends to our assistant trainer, our grooms, hotwalkers, exercise riders and so many others who work selflessly to help us achieve success.”
