Ontario Damsel and Bull Page in Sunday spotlight at Woodbine

September 21, 2019

TORONTO, August 21, 2019 – Seven starters will take to the world-renowned E.P. Taylor Turf Course in the $125,000 Ontario Damsel Stakes, one of two ($100,000 Bull Page Stakes) added-money events scheduled for Sunday’s 11-race card at Woodbine.

Amalfi Coast, bred and owned by Terra Racing Stable, will get her first stakes and turf test in the one-mile Ontario Damsel, a race for three-year-old Ontario-bred fillies.

A daughter of Tapizar, Amalfi Coast, trained by Kevin Attard, has a record of 1-2-1 from five starts. In her latest engagement, on August 24, the chestnut finished a game second at 1 1/16 miles over the Toronto oval’s main track.

Chiefswood Stable homebred Bold Script, a two-time winner from 10 starts, has nine-top three finishes for conditioner Stuart Simon. The daughter of Speightstown has finished second in her past three efforts, all stakes. Last year, Bold Script won the 1 1/16-mile Princess Elizabeth Stakes at Woodbine.

Dream On Jilly, also trained by Kevin Attard, finished second but was placed first in her most recent appearance, a 7 1/2-furlong inner turf race at Woodbine. The daughter of Overanalyze, owned by Raroma Stable, finished second last year on the Gulfstream turf in the Our Dear Peggy Stakes. She finished sixth, after being checked on the turn, in a 6 1/2-furlong grass race at Woodbine on June 8.

Intanga Rose, a daughter of Animal Kingdom, has never finished lower than fourth in seven lifetime starts. The Stronach Stables’ homebred, trained by Sid Attard, has run all of her previous races over the Woodbine Tapeta, including two wins in her first two career starts, both coming in 2018.

Trained by Tony Gattellaro, and bred and owned by Tucci Stables, Miss Ariel owns a 2-2-4 record from 11 career starts. Both victories, along with a third-place finish, have come on the Woodbine green. Two trips on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course yielded a win and a third (in the Passing Mood Stakes), and on August 4, the daughter of Silent Name notched a victory over 7 1/2 panels on the inner turf course.

Weed Be Happy, owned by Tucci Holdings, is also trained by Tony Gattellaro. After a fifth-place finish on the Woodbine main last August, the daughter of Data Link smoked to a one-length score on August 24 over the E.P. Taylor Turf Course.

Trained by Mark Casse, Western Curl, another Chiefswood homebred, has two wins and four thirds from eight lifetime starts. The daughter of Curlin won her latest start, a 2 ¼-length score over six furlongs on the E.P. Taylor Turf Course.

Last year, Zestina, bred and owned by Stronach Stables, won the Ontario Damsel in a time of 1:35.91.

The Ontario Damsel is scheduled as the eighth of 11 races on Sunday’s 1:05 p.m. program. The Bull Page, a six-furlong main track event for Ontario-sired two-year-old colts and geldings, goes as race three.
