TORONTO, August 30, 2026 – Brandy and Me handled the rail post and a big field to win Sunday’s $200,000 Algoma Stakes and remain undefeated in the kickoff to Yearling Sales Stakes’ Sunday at Woodbine. Breaking from post position one, the daughter of Silent Name (JPN) bobbled slightly to her left as the gates opened but recovered well leaving the chute in the seven-furlong sprint for three & four-year-old fillies foaled in Canada. Under debut winning rider Jason Hoyte, Brandy and Me advanced to sixth along the rail through an opening quarter mile in :22.61. Souper Diva set the early pace with Arianna’s Tour second and Flying Schulzy third in the field of eleven. Into the turn, Hoyte kept Brandy and Me nestled on the fence as she moved into second through an opening half mile in :45.33. Approaching the two-furlong marker, Hoyte angled his filly off the rail and took aim at 8-1 pacesetter Souper Diva, drawing even just inside the one-eighth pole and drawing off well to win by two and one-half lengths in a final time of 1:22.98. The six-furlong time was 1:10.08. The bay filly made the races in August of this year, rallying from eighth in a field of nine maidens, romping by five and one-half lengths at 36-1 under Hoyte, while earning an impressive 80 Beyer Speed Figure. “We weren’t too surprised by her maiden race,” said trainer Evette Chartrand-Hoek, following the Algoma win. “We didn’t think it would be as grand as it was when she broke her maiden. There’s been a lot of funny things with this horse, so we kind of nicknamed her Bucky the Wonder Horse, and now it’s like, wow.” Bred in Ontario by Keith McClelland & Rachel McClelland and owned by Sue Leslie V & S Kay and Chris Odell, Brandy and Me (Silent Name – Aquinnah, by City Place) improved to a perfect two-for-two in her fledgling career. Brandy and Me was listed at 12-1 on the morning line, went off at 7-2 and returned $9.80 for her Algoma win. 12-1 shot Hawberry rallied to be second, Ella It Is was third and race favourite Regal Moment overcame a wide trip to finish fourth.
