My Silencer wins career debut in Frost King Stakes

October 31, 2018

TORONTO, October 31, 2018—My Silencer was a winner right out of the gate, taking the $100,000 Frost King Stakes for two-year-olds in his career debut on Wednesday evening at Woodbine Racetrack.

The two first-time starters in the 10-horse field led the way with My Silencer darting out to pressure Hungary through opening fractions of :23.33 and :46.56. My Silencer took over command mid-turn and ran away from his rivals down the stretch to win the seven-furlong affair by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:23.89.

Dun Drum stalked the pace and came through between horses to finish second ahead of late-closers Krachenwagen and Simcoe Stakes champion Blessed Two, who closed from the back of the pack.

Silencium, the 5-2 favourite from the outside post 10, rounded out the top five finish order after racing in contention three-wide.

While My Silencer was making just his first career start, winning jockey Luis Contreras was impressed with the two-year-old’s natural ability.

“He was a professional. It seems like he has run before,” said Contreras. “I didn’t get any bad habit, nothing, he was just perfect.

“He broke really sharp and put himself in a great spot. I didn’t want to take him away from that, so I just tried to save the horse as much as I could, and he was just taking me to the wire.”

The Silent Name-Serena’s Rose gelding is trained by William Tharrenos for owners René and Darlene Hunderup of Heste Sport Inc.

“It’s wonderful, finally it happened,” said René Hunderup of scoring the stakes victory with his homebred. “I knew he had the third gear and I told Luis don’t forget that third gear and he sure used it.”

Sent postward at odds of 16-1, My Silencer paid $34.60, $17.30 and $11.50. He combined with Dun Drum ($8.10, $5.60) for a $268.70 exacta. With Krachenwagen ($6.20) third and Blessed Two fourth, the trifecta paid $837.45 and the superfecta paid $2,508 for $1 tickets.
