TORONTO, November 22, 2025 – Bossy Candy made her first stakes appearance a winning one, taking top prize in the $150,000 Shady Well, Saturday at Woodbine. Leaving from the inside post, Bossy Candy broke alertly in the six-furlong main track race for Ontario-bred or Ontario-sired 2-year-old fillies and tracked in third behind leader Souper Diva through an opening quarter in :22.72. In rein to Rafael Hernandez, the Mark Casse trainee continued to ride the rail and improved to second at the half in :46.00. Souper Diva, who won this year’s editions of the Muskoka and Victorian Queen, rounded the turn on top, but Bossy Candy loomed a major threat in upper stretch. A game Souper Diva dug in valiantly, but Bossy Candy, the even-money choice, now in the three-path, continued to grind away and struck front with about 125 yards to the finish line. Bossy Candy then edged away from her rival on her way to a two-length triumph. Souper Diva was 3 ¼ lengths clear of Mathematical for second. Pageant Queen finished fourth. Gray Dee One was scratched. The final time was 1:11.48. Sent on her way at 4-1 in the maiden special weight affair for 2-year-old fillies contested at six panels over the Woodbine main track, Bossy Candy rallied to finish second, 1 ¼ lengths behind the winner. “The first time, she just missed the break a little bit, a little bit slow, and we have a little trouble down the turn, got intimidated,” said Hernandez, who posted his colony-best 22nd stakes victory of the season. “Finally, got in clear and ran second. I knew she was going to learn from that, and today I was totally confident.” Owned by Gregory Tramontin and Michael Stevens, the daughter of Candy Ride (ARG) out of the Unbridled’s Song mare Casey’s Dreamin’ was bred by A & A Farms and W. S. Farish. A $75,000 purchase at the 2025 Fasig-Tipton August Digital Sale, Bossy Candy paid $4.30 for the win. Chris Lomon, Woodbine Share This:Share
