$1 = $14,665.05 + 800
A $1 superfecta in race eight on Saturday returned $14,665.05. Headed by Awasef (ridden by Austin Adams for trainer Kevin Attard), who paid $100.60 to win, the four-horse (Lunch with Bernie, Ontario, and Alliston were second, third and fourth, respectively) combination delivered a huge payout on the Oct. 19 card. It also happened to be the 800th career win for Attard.
Grade 3, times two
Dresden Row, who won the Grade 3 Durham Cup last month for his first stakes success, made the grade again when the Lorne Richards-trained 3-year-old took the Grade 3 Ontario Derby on Sunday. Ridden by Ryan Munger, the son of Lord Nelson, owned by True North Stable and Bloom Racing Stable, paid $4.40 for the win.
Frost King heat
The third stakes appearance was the charm for Unbridled Weather, who won the $100,000 Frost King Stakes, Sunday at Woodbine. After a second in the Bull Page Stakes on Sept. 15 and a fifth in the Algonquin Stakes last time out on Oct. 5, Unbridled Weather took all the spoils in Sunday’s 6 ½-furlong main track feature, which delivered trainer Angus Buntain his first stakes crown. The bay gelding, ridden by Fraser Aebly, paid $17 for the win.
