This weekly feature offers a look back at the best Thoroughbred races and/or performances of the week at Woodbine. #5 – Saturday, April 23; Race 7 – Not too many horses pay $88 during a race card, but Awesome Chestnut ($88.40) took his winter training and racing into a $25K maiden claimer and recorded a 2 ½-length shocker for jockey Kris Robinson and Julie Belhumeur. Click here #4 – Friday April 22; Race 10 – Friday’s last was a modest 10K maiden claimer, but featured the biggest field of the meet, 13. Let’s Go Bear took a 6-length lead before being swallowed up by stablemate Bears Redneck, who went on to win by 4 ¾ lengths for Luis Contreras and trainer Reade Baker. The win and place price returned the exact $4.60 payoff. Click here #3 – Saturday, April 23; Race 9 – This maiden allowance race may have spawned an interesting Queen’s Plate prospect in Enduring Star, who fended off a late stretch challenge from Jojo’s Mojo, after hanging back in the field early himself. Ridden by Eurico Rosa da Silva, he is one of many Could-Get-To-The-Plate sophomores for trainer Mark Casse. Click here #2 – Friday, April 22; Race 5 – The $32K maiden claimer offered the biggest blowout of the meet so far as Quick Code stalked modest early fractions before establishing command on the turn en route to a 7 ½-length victory for Justin Stein and Mike DePaulo. Click here #1 – Saturday, April 23; Race 8; Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes – Wildcat Marie was both fast and impressive in the most lucrative race of the weekend, going wire-to-wire in the first graded stakes race of the meet, the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes.
