This weekly feature offers a look back at the best Thoroughbred races and/or performances of the week at Woodbine. #5 – Wednesday night racing; Wednesday, April 27 – Every race on the 2011 debut card of night racing makes the list. Racing fans look forward to the twilight kickoff at Woodbine and many did not go home disappointed as not one mutuel favourite won, including Tiger Cat Lilly, in the fourth, who as the second choice, paid $4.60! Click here #4 – Sunday, May 1; Race 10 – Sunday’s last offered up a maiden allowance field that was clearly evenly matched as the top 12 of the group of 14 finished within 5 ¾ lengths of one another. Makulu Matatu, the 12th place finisher, still recorded a 40 Beyer figure. Inside Move, for jockey Jesse Campbell and trainer Mark Casse, edged Cardiac Rehab by a neck at the wire. Click here #3 – Saturday, April 30; Race 5 – Another wide open maiden allowance race featured four different leaders from the field of 13 for the 6 ½ furlong race. I’llthinkaboutit led early, was passed by Lady Sue, who gave up the lead to Lady Fortuna. Only in the final jumps did winner, Syfret, emerge for Eurico Rosa da Silva and Andrew Smith. Click here #2 – Saturday, April 30; Race 4 – A small field greeted the return of a very interesting allowance level event that featured the 2011 debuts of Artic Fern, who very likely would have been the Queen’s Plate post-time favourite in the race that was captured by his rival in here, Big Red Mike. Artic Fern was a strong winner in fast time (Beyer figure of 91) for David Clark and Mike Keogh. Click here #1 – Saturday, April 30; Race 6; Fury Stakes – Roxy Gap, for Patrick Husbands and Casse, emerged as the leading contender for the 2011 Woodbine Oaks after edging Marketing Mix by a half-length in the 7-furlong event, considered a key prep for the $500,000 Oaks, presented by Budweiser.
