This weekly feature offers a look back at the best Thoroughbred races and/or performances of the week at Woodbine. #5 – Friday, July 1; Race 6; Sweet Briar Too Stakes – Biofuel, Canada’s reigning Horse of the Year, made her seasonal debut and finished fourth, beaten a ½ length behind Amiable Grace, D’Wild Beach and Rashnaa in a tight finish. Amiable Grace, for jockey Emma-Jayne Wilson and trainer Mike Doyle, was one of only two horses worse than third at the stretch call to win this week (Palmetto Moon, July 3, Race 3). Click here #4 – Sunday, July 3; Race 5 – Three horses hit the wire together in this $12.5K claimer, as Kombat Kitty, Groundswell and Need to Know came from three different directions to finish necks apart. Kombat Kitty on the rail got up for Justin Stein and Ian Howard. Click here #3 – Sunday, July 3; Race 8; Bison City Stakes – A purse of $250,000 was offered for the second jewel of the Canadian Filly Triple Tiara and it was the Lady Angela Stakes winner, Bear It’s Time, who roared back from a sixth-place finish in the Woodbine Oaks to defeat six, including Oaks rivals Spooky Kitten and Marketing Mix under Luis Contreras. The chestnut now has three career wins for Reade Baker. Click here #2 – Saturday, July 2; Race 8; Achievement Stakes – Emerging a serious player in the three-year-old ranks is Eternal Rule after his excellent 5 ¼-length score in the Achievement Stakes in fast time for David Clark. The Ontario-bred, undefeated in three races, appears to have a bright future for Sid Attard. Click here #1 – Friday, July 1; Race 8; Grade 3 Dominion Day Stakes – Don Cavallo was a dominant, fast tour-de-force five-length victory against some of the best older horses around in the Grade 3 Dominion Day in front of a large crowd for Contreras and Roger Attfield. The 98 Beyer figure recorded was easily the best of the week and tied for third best of the meet behind Embur’s Song’s 101 and Stunning Stag’s 100. Click here Share This:Share
