TORONTO, May 14, 2019 – Each week, track announcer Robert Geller comments on some of the performances that caught his eye, highlighting horses to key in on for upcoming races at Woodbine. NIIGON’S SPIN (May 3, Race 4, No. 1, 4th) Chiefswood Stable newcomer Niigon’s Spin wound up a game fourth despite a contrasting style in the run down the stretch on the first occasion as against in deep stretch. Breaking well from the rail at the 1-1/16 miles, Niigon’s Spin showed early prominence before backing up into the far turn. Drifting back to second last, to her credit, Niigon’s Spin came back on to outrun her 16-1 odds and finish on the heels of the top trio despite being blocked in the home stretch, each of whom had campaigned in Florida in the winter. With trainer Stuart Simon off to a solid start at the meet, this daughter of Hard Spun could well be worth keeping an eye on next out. ROARING FORTIES (May 5, Race 4, No. 2, 2nd) After getting back early, Roaring Forties began to rouse once taken away from the rail to come wide into the stretch, gaining strongly in the final furlong to close steady ground on the winner, Chilly in Charge. This first-time starter from the barn of Dan Vella is by Stormy Atlantic from a Lemon Drop Kid dam and appreciated the seven-furlong distance. Beaten by a length and a half, the Florida-bred colt swept aside his 21-1 odds in this three-year-old maiden allowance and looks likely to have benefited from his debut.
