Meandering between horses, looking for a run the length of the stretch, with any racing luck, Street Cash could have been so much closer than his sixth paced finish. It was the first time since his maiden-breaking win on the E. P. Taylor turf course, exactly one year prior, that Street Cash had been out of the money on the grass. Keep in mind that this was the 5YO’s first run back off a seven month lay-off, taking on high level allowance/optional claimers at the 7f won by Gliding By. Nor did it help that the rail was out in lane 5, rarely kind to those drawn in an outside post-position, Street Cash having broken from gate 10. With the benefit of the run and the prospect of a trouble free trip next time on turf, there is every confidence that the Dan Vella trainee, Street Cash will rebound, hopefully at a decent price.

In a contentious field, debut runner Matthew’s Ridge ran a solid third behind Major Eclipse and Zap Cat, sitting mid-pack for much of the 1-1/16M journey before kicking on gamely in deep stretch. By the sire Paddy O’Prado, it is no surprise that the 3YO took well to the turf track and given the Lemon Drop Kid bloodline on the dam’s side, should have stamina. Sent off at 15/1 odds in this maiden allowance, Matthew’s Ridge held his own against more experienced runners. Trainer Michael de Paulo appears to have a handy turf horse that would not have to improve too much more to pick up a breakthrough route win.
