TORONTO, April 25 – Each week, track announcer Robert Geller will comment on some of the performances that caught his eye, highlighting horses to key on in upcoming races at Woodbine. Follow Robert on Twitter @WoodbineGeller for more insights on racing at Woodbine.
LISTENLINDALISTEN – (04-15-17 Race 10, No 3, 2nd)
This debutante filly was looking for a run at the top of the lane when the rail initially closed up on her. Once she found room, Listenlindalisten gained steadily on the winner Gertie T who finished wide out. The 3YO daughter of Court Vision beat out Red Cabernet, the best bet newcomer in the field, for second place. Having finished off the five furlong trip well, she will be suited by further ground. Raced by Conrad Farms in the barn of Mark Casse, Listenlindalisten was the most eye-catching run of opening day.
FRESH PRINCESS – (04-16-7, Race 1, No 2, 3rd)
Fresh Princess was the unlucky runner in the first race on the opening Sunday of the meet, having to settle for a late-closing third behind newcomer Itsinthestars and runner-up Beau’s Beauty. Waiting for a rails run that never materialized, rider Jeffrey Alderson had to hook her out inside the final 1/16th around the dueling top pair but by the time Fresh Princess had built momentum to close ground, it was too late. Those who took the short odds should not lose heart as trainer Tony Gattellaro has a nice lightly-raced filly on his hands that should only improve off this run.
