Weekend warrior

Souper Sunday, who was competing in the claiming ranks in 2022, won her third straight race and first stakes crown when the 3-year-old filly claimed top prize in Saturday’s $100,000 Georgian Bay Stakes. Steve Owens, trains, co-bred and co-owns the daughter of Souper Speedy.

Bread winner

Buttered Toast, sent off at 30-1, rallied from last to first under Skye Chernetz to pull the upset in Saturday’s eighth race, a 1 1/16-mile tilt over the Inner Turf. The daughter of Skipshot was swung eight-wide and went on to record a three-quarter length score for trainer and co-owner David Cotey.

Two for Two

Kerouac took Sunday’s seventh race, making the Kevin Attard trainee undefeated in 2023. Kerouac won on May 28 with jockey Kazushi Kimura and on Sunday with Rafael Hernandez.
