What’s On Track: Pegasus Weekend at Gulfstream Park Brings a Fiery Winter Spark

January 23, 2026

The Stars are Out

The 10th anniversary edition of the $3 million Pegasus World Cup (G1) – set for this Saturday at its longtime home of Gulfstream Park – features the lights-out duo of undefeated Disco Time and reigning champion White Abarrio atop the morning line.

Trained by Brad Cox for breeder/owner Juddmonte, Disco Time opens as the early 8-5 choice after shuffling his way to a perfect five-for-five record with three stakes tallies and nearly $552,000 in prizes.

The Not This Time colt captured the Grade 3 Lecomte last January before collecting additional stakes badges in the St Louis Derby and Dwyer Stakes later in the year.

White Abarrio, positioned as the 4-1 second choice ahead of his title defense, captured the 2025 Pegasus World Cup in a dominant 6 ¼-length fashion.

The renowned Race Day roan has reeled in six graded stakes titles, headlined by the 2023 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1), en route to a 24: 10-2-3 line and $7.15 million banked.

Both powerhouses will be making their 2026 debuts Saturday.

Roll Out the Red Carpet

The $1 million Pegasus World Cup Turf (G1T) – the second main event on Pegasus World Cup Day – stands to be a who’s who of turf titans.

Among the 12-horse contingent of Grade 1 winners and millionaires is Klaravich Stables’ Program Trading (GB), who owns a membership card for both clubs.

Yet to race in 2026, the accomplished 6-year-old Lope De Vega (IRE) bay has competed just 10 times since debuting in 2023 but has excelled in limited opportunities.

With five victories and a trio of seconds ($1.55 million earned), Program Trading has netted standout scores in the 2023 Saratoga (G1T) and Hollywood Derby’s (G1T), as well as the 2024 Old Forester Bourbon Turf Classic (G1T).

The Chad Brown charge enters the Pegasus World Cup Turf as the narrow 5-2 choice.

Out for Revenge

After getting caught late in last year’s $500,000 Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf (G2T), In Our Time returns for a shot at redemption, this time, under Eclipse Award winning rider Irad Ortiz Jr.

Once the pacesetter with a clear path to the wire, In Our Time, despite a valiant effort, was ultimately usurped by two foes to finish third.

The 5-year-old Saffie Joseph Jr. trainee remained a constant presence in the money, rounding out her 2025 campaign at 1-4-2 line across eight starts.

Now ready and raring to go ahead of her first start this year, In Our Time enters the 1 1/16-mile Pegasus Filly & Mare Turf at 5-1.

Joining In Our Time is a pair of Woodbine standouts in 2024 King’s Plate Champion Caitlinhergrtness (8-1) and 2025 Canadian Stakes (G2T) winner Ready For Shirl (20-1).

Control the Narrative

Indy Bay’s sophomore campaign didn’t end as planned with a DNF in the Grade 1 Cotillion, but the resilient dark bay can begin year three on the right foot with a strong outing in the $225,000 Inside Information (G2) on Gulfstream’s Pegasus undercard.

Outside of a difficult closing chapter, Indy Bay enjoyed a standout second season under trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

The 4-year-old daughter of Take Charge Indy–Discovery Bay compiled a 4-1-1 line through seven starts, highlighted by a 1 ¾-length triumph of the Charles Town Oaks (G2) on August 22.

With exactly $690,000 in the bank for owners Agave Racing Stable, Miller Racing, and BAG Stables, Indy Bay enters the Inside Information at 9-2.

Take Me Higher

Gulfstream Park regular Layabout is set to contest his first graded stakes this Saturday when he joins 11 other hopefuls in the $225,000 William L. McKnight (G3T).

A two-time stakes winner for owner Kevin Doyle and trainer Patrick Biancone, the 4-year-old Laoban bay has made all nine career starts at the Hallandale Beach oval.

Layabout struck gold at the stakes level first on August 2 in the Bear’s Den before capping off his freshman season with a gritty score in the Tropical Park Derby on December 13.

Eager to vault into uncharted territory, Layabout enters the William L. McKnight at 10-1.
