May 20, 2017

TORONTO, May 20 – Where’s the Widget, a winner of six of his last seven starts, heads a talented field of seven in Holiday Monday’s $125,000 Steady Growth Stakes, at Woodbine.

Trained by Ralph Biamonte for Mary E. Biamonte, Where’s the Widget started a six-race winning streak on October 23, 2015 that continued through October 22, 2016 when a narrow neck winner of the grassy Bunty Lawless Stakes. The streak included scores in five main track routing events highlighted by a romping eight-length score in last year’s Steady Growth.
Where’s the Widget’s streak came to an end with an uncharacteristic eighth in the Sir Barton Stakes in the final start of his 2016 campaign. Leading rider Eurico Rosa da Silva has the call.
The improving Maxsmiraclejourney will provide the major opposition in the 1 1/16-mile Tapeta route for Ontario-sired stock. Trained by Kevin Attard for owners Stephen Chesney and Cory S. Hoffman, Maxsmiraclejourney posted a record of three wins and four seconds from eight starts last season. Sent to post at odds of 25-1 in his 2016 finale, the Sir Barton Stakes, Maxsmiraclejourney rallied to be a good second behind Freitag while earning a career-best 92 Beyer Speed Figure.
