TORONTO, April 27, 2018 – A proud supporter of the Etobicoke General Hospital, Woodbine Entertainment is teaming up with its longtime charitable partner to conduct a 50/50 draw at the upcoming Derby Day Party. The Etobicoke General Hospital, part of the William Osler Health System, is currently amid a multi-million-dollar redevelopment project to help expand access to its health care services. A new six-storey Etobicoke Wellness Centre is on track to open this fall and the construction of a new four-storey patient tower, including a state-of-the-art emergency department, is expected to be completed by 2019. Woodbine’s support of the Osler Health System over the years through donations, sponsorships and fundraising events like the Walk ‘n Roll Fest for Healthy Kids has helped Etobicoke General keep pace with the needs of one of the fastest growing and most diverse communities in Toronto. Woodbine will now be conducting its first 50/50 draw to benefit the hospital at this year’s Derby Day Party, which will be held in the Trackside Tent on May 5. A popular fundraising practise at sporting events, the 50/50 draw will be made possible through an electronic raffle system, which will allow for efficient transactions and a display of the live draw pool on the toteboard throughout the day. Tickets will be sold in packages of $10 for 10 tickets, $20 for 50 tickets, or $40 for 144 tickets. The 50/50 draw will be conducted on May 5 at 6 p.m. by the New Player Zone on the second floor. The winning ticket will be announced onsite and posted online at WEGCares.ca. Donations to the Etobicoke General Hospital can also be made through Ticketmaster.ca when purchasing your Derby Day Party tickets. “As Woodbine’s own property development plans get underway, we remain committed to supporting our charitable partners in achieving meaningful growth that will contribute to a healthy community,” said Bill Ford, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at Woodbine. “Etobicoke General Hospital services thousands of patients every year and provides crucial health care services to local families that will be enhanced by the hospital’s expansion plans.” As part of its commitment to help build healthy and vibrant communities in which is operates, Woodbine made a five-year pledge in 2015 to contribute a total of $100,000 in charitable donations to the Etobicoke General Hospital’s redevelopment project. “We are grateful for the commitment and support that Woodbine has provided over the years to our hospital,” said Ken Mayhew, President & CEO, William Osler Health System Foundation. “The 50/50 draw will enable people to give back and add a little more excitement to what will already be an incredibly exciting event at Woodbine.” The hospital’s transformation will allow for enhanced patient services in a variety of its units including Diagnostic Imaging, Ambulatory Procedures, Intensive Care, Maternal Newborn as well as Cardiac, Respiratory and Neurodiagnostic. Dr. Marc Ossip, Chief of Diagnostic Imaging, and Dr. Roberta Minna, Interim Corporate Chief of Surgery, have shared some of their motivations and experiences working at Etobicoke General. “For 14 years, this is where I feel like it’s my second home,” said Dr. Ossip. “It has a family feeling with a lot of deeply caring and passionate health providers who are working to make patients get better.” “What motives me is doing the best I can for my patients,” said Dr. Minna. “As long as they are doing well, that’s all I really need.” For more details on Woodbine’s Derby Day Party, click here.
