Clocker Report: Horses to watch this weekend

June 1, 2018

TORONTO, June 1, 2018 – Each week, Woodbine’s head clocker Ernie Perri comments on some of the top workouts watched, highlighting horses to key on in upcoming races at Woodbine.

[Track ratings based on a scale of 1-5 with ‘1’ being the slowest.]

Friday, Race 6 – Sable Island

Perri said: “Sable Island for Colbourne has had a couple of booming works with Da Silva aboard, in particular the latest in :59.20 breezing on May 24. Looking for the upset on the turf.”

Saturday, Race 5 – Marner

Perri said: “Marner worked for Mike Doyle on May 26 in 1:01.80 handily. She worked in company with Tiz Breathtaking (1:01.40) and Crumlin Diva (1:02.20b). I really like the fact that Contreras gets the mount.”

Sunday, Race 2 – Pleasant Forest

Perri said: “Pleasant Forest worked for Kevin Attard in 1:00.80 breezing from the gate on May 20 with splits of :23.80 and :47.80. He came back to breeze in 1:00 flat on May 27 with Chris Brew in latest trial like that he is starting in a long race.”

Sunday, Race 6 – The Newfie Express

Perri said: “The Newfie Express worked for Patykewich on May 25 in :47.60 breezing right after the break. The track was fair rated 3. He was one of the first two-year-olds to start working. This one has a nice flowing stride to him.”
