ICYMI: Churchill Downs Ends Spring Meet in Style, Miss Vyvyanne Stars at Woodbine

June 29, 2026

Can’t Be Stopped

Winchell Thoroughbreds’ Magnitude shook free early and never looked back en route to a convincing $2 million Stephen Foster (G1) victory, Saturday, at Churchill Downs.

Entering the 1 1/8-mile main track tilt off a fairy-tale Dubai World Cup (Gr. 1) triumph on March 28, the 4-year-old son of Not This Time–Rockadelic brought the same captivating energy in a 1 ¼-length decision over fellow superstars Sovereignty (third of five) and White Abarrio (fourth).

The fifth Graded/Group badge of Magnitude’s distinguished career pushed the Steve Asmussen charge to 8-2-1 with nearly $9.8 million in prizes from 14 starts.

As the 5-2 second choice, he paid $7.16.

Extraordinary Experience

Immersive devoted her full self in a hard-earned tally of the $500,000 Fleur de Lis (G2) on Saturday at Churchill Downs.

Returning to the historic Louisville, Kentucky oval after a runner-up Shawnee (G2) finish on May 30, the 4-year-old Nyquist filly came thundering down the lane to reach the wire three-quarters of a length clear.

Immersive’s first trip to the winner’s circle since September’s Seneca Overnight Stakes marked her sixth win from 10 starts (6-4-0; $2,262,400) for conditioner Brad Cox.

Bred and owned by Godolphin, Immersive (8-5) paid $5.34.

Five Alive

Make that five straight victories for Kantharos chestnut Lagynos, who bested eight foes in Saturday’s $500,000 Wise Dan (G2T) at Churchill Downs.

The tough-minded tally by three-quarters-of-a-length continued a stretch of brilliance that also includes triumphs in the Fair Grounds (G3T), Muniz Memorial Classic (G2T), Opening Verse Stakes, and Arlington (G3T).

Trained by Steve Asmussen for owner HRH Prince Sultan Bin Mashal Al Saud, Lagynos has now banked close to $2.7 million on the strength of a 28:10-5-7 line.

As the 3-2 choice Saturday, she paid $5.

Congratulations, Graduate

Making her graded stakes debut in career start number 25, Miss Vyvyanne outdueled the boys in the $200,000 Highlander (G2T), presented by bet365, on Saturday at Woodbine.

A tremendous performer across the allowance ranks at the Toronto, Ontario oval and Gulfstream Park, Miss Vyvyanne proved well worthy of the promotion in a confident two-length win.

Conditioned by Gail Cox for owners Ralph Murray and Calstar Farm, the 6-year-old daughter of Rainbow Heir–Caribean Beat now sports a 12-3-1 line with nearly $505,000 banked.

Topping the betting at 8-5, Miss Vyvyanne paid $5.20.

Burning Bright

Juddmonte homebred Deep Flame scorched the competition on the final day of Churchill Downs’ spring meet with a commanding 5 ¾-length triumph in Sunday’s $250,000 Maxfield (G3).

The 3-year-old son of Into Mischief–Barbadia conquered his first graded test with authority, rising to the top of the seven-furlong sprint without any resistance.

The impressive display under rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. elevated Deep Flame to 2-2-0 from four starts, sending the colt’s lifetime earnings above $255,000.

Trained by Brad Cox, Deep Flame paid $4.50 as the 6-5 choice.
