Inside Track for October 4-5

October 6, 2025

A look at some of the top highlights from the past weekend of racing at Woodbine.

Nearctic Stakes Sizzle

No Nay Hudson (IRE) dug deep to turn the $250,000 Nearctic Stakes Presented by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance (G2T) into a crowning moment, Saturday at Woodbine.

Vying for his first graded score in his fourth attempt at the level, the experienced 5-year-old bay gelding duelled with several rivals, including multiple graded stakes winner Nobals, but ultimately prevailed over the latter by a neck for the flagship triumph.

Now sporting a 5-4-2 line from 19 starts, the $190,000 purchase at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale has reeled in nearly $530,000 for owners Andrew Farm and For the People Racing Stable LLC.

At 8-1, No Nay Hudson (IRE), trained by Wesley Ward, paid $18.90.

Breathtaking Performance

Breath Away (GB) blew away the Woodbine faithful with a dazzling come-from-behind victory in Saturday’s $200,000 bet365 Dance Smartly Stakes (G2T).

Traversing the inner turf in her Woodbine debut, the 5-year-old Bated Breath (GB) dark bay brought her A-game, tracking down 2024 King’s Plate champion Caitlinhergrtness late for the impressive half-length decision.

The Miguel Clement charge’s third career stakes win, and first of the graded variety, vaulted her earnings total over $500,000 through 19 starts (5-6-3).

Breath Away (GB), who punched her ticket to the Pegasus World Cup Filly & Mare Turf Invitational Stakes (G2T) at Gulfstream in January, paid $14.

Arresting Performance

Dixie Law sent Woodbine’s 2025 Fall Turf Showcase weekend off with a bang, delivering a standout effort in Sunday afternoon’s $250,000 Cup and Saucer Stakes.

Coming off a sixth in the Johnnie Walker Natalma (G1T) in just her second career start, the budding Dale Desruisseaux charge found her footing in the 1 1/16-mile Cup and Saucer.

Closing at 4-1, Dixie Law held firm before making a move for the lead and pulling away late for the 2 ¼-length clearance.

The bay filly, bred and owned by Garland Williamson, survived an inquiry to notch her maiden stakes title.

A winner twice from three starts lifetime, Dixie Law paid $10.70.
