Social Code takes to the turf in Alywow Stakes

June 18, 2025

TORONTO, June 18, 2025 – Social Code will make her first turf start in the $100,000 Alywow Stakes Presented by Greenwood Stakes, on Saturday at Woodbine.

Nine 3-year-old fillies, including Social Code, a daughter of Constitution out of the Animal Kingdom mare Davida, will take to the E.P. Taylor turf in the 6 ½-furlong Alywow.

Trained by multiple graded stakes winner Steve Flint for CamHaven Farms, nom du course of Tony and Shirley Camilleri, the dark bay filly heads into her sixth race and fourth stakes engagement off a game third, just a neck back of top spot, in the Ruling Angel Stakes on May 17.

After breaking a step slowly, Social Code settled into stride in the seven-furlong main track affair. After being angled out three to four wide with about a sixteenth to go, she rallied forcefully between runners to just miss.

“It was a tough defeat, but it was a great effort,” said Flint. “She has had some major league traffic problems in pretty much all her races at Woodbine. Kelsey Danner’s filly (Brindi) ran a phenomenal race, very gutsy. Nobody is saying we should have won the race, but I wish we wouldn’t have had the traffic problems we encountered because she really made a big move in the last 20 yards.”

Social Code broke her maiden at first asking on September 28, 2024, at Woodbine, in a race originally scheduled for the turf. She was sixth in the Grade 3 Mazarine in November and was fourth, one month later, in a 1 1/16-mile main track race originally slated for the turf at Fair Grounds.

She was third in her 3-year-old debut, the six-furlong main track Star Shoot, on April 26 at Woodbine.

“Her mother being a sister to the mother of (multiple graded stakes winner) Bricks and Mortar, who made $7 million – we’re dying to get her on the turf,” said Flint. “It’s rained three times when we’ve tried to get her on the turf, so we’re excited to finally get her on the grass.”

Social Code posted a trio of four-furlong breezes over the Woodbine turf training track ahead of the Alywow, including :48.00 on both June 8 and June 15.

“I’m expecting a really good effort,” said Flint. “Obviously, working on the turf training track isn’t the same as running on the E.P. Taylor course, but she did it effortlessly. I had a target for her to work with – I didn’t want her to pass the target – because I wanted her to have somebody to look at so that she could keep her mind on business. And she did everything I asked of her.

“We just want the opportunity to run on the grass. That’s where we think her future is. She has always been a big, rangy filly – she’s 17 hands – and I think she absolutely wants to go two turns. We’re looking at the Ontario Colleen (G3, for 3-year-old fillies, on July 26), at one mile on the E.P. Taylor, as the next start after this.”

A $15,000 (USD) purchase at the 2023 Keeneland Association September Yearling Sale, Social Code was bred in Kentucky by CHC Inc.
