TORONTO, August 1 – Each week, track announcer Robert Geller will comment on some of the performances that caught his eye, highlighting horses to key on in upcoming races at Woodbine. Follow Robert on Twitter @WoodbineGeller for more insights on racing at Woodbine.

The manner in which the first time starter Mr Havercamp disposed of Souper Fly Over in his debut suggests that this 3YO is headed for a bright future. Well-bred by Court Vision from a Medaglio d’Oro dam, the Catherine Day Phillips trainee showed professionalism in taking the rails run at the top of the lane that eventually led to her three and a half lengths win. Mr Havercamp was able to hold a forward position and accelerate in his 7f debut, assets that should serve him well at any distance on either surface going forward from here.
MOONLIGHT RAIN (07-22-17 Race 3 No 5, 1st)
Moonlight Rain came alive late in the piece in her debutante performance over 6f on the turf when angled off the rail to drive through the leading pack, getting up to score. Drifting in the betting to 11/1 odds, Patrick Husbands timed his run to perfection despite having been a fair way out of it at the top of the home stretch. Now that she has that race under her belt, this daughter of Point of Entry from a Tiznow dam may even be able to show a little more pace next time out too. Trainer Mark Casse clearly has a 2YO filly in Moonlight Rain that is partial to the grass. Here’s hoping both debut winners on this week’s list can keep the ball rolling.
